AUTO ZONE CAR SHOW 7/29
Article by: Dave Kempkes
Terry & Fran Stade hosted the Auto Zone Car Show in Bloomington. They
had a car count of about 69 including 9 Cruzer cars that came at various times during the day. Terry & Fran wish to express
their thanks for the assistance of Dave Kempkes & John Nelson for parking cars and to others for all assistance given,
even moral support!. It was a nice day... a little windy (canopy causalities). Terry & Fran did this show, but asked that
gift cards be donated by Auto Zone for Summer Spectacular Raffle prizes. To make matters fair, Cruzers were not eligible for
trophies. A HUGE thanks to Terry & Fran for their generosity in the gift card donations to the club!!! We are looking
forward to next years show

KOLACKY DAYS 7/28 & LUPIENT GMC “ALL OLDS” 7/29
I didn’t get any pictures from Pete & Jeannette, but they attended both shows getting
a 1st place at Kolacky Days with their Rallye 250, and then at the Lupient show they scored another 1st
with the Rallye 350 PLUS a 2nd with their 442. Big Congrats to them for a “Trophy Weekend”.!!!

ST. PAUL KELLOGG THURSDAY NIGHT CRUISE IN 7/26
There was a special event for the Police, so they decide to do a “one time” run
of this event again. Unfortunately it was not a good weather night and only 19 cars showed up, with 2 of them being Cruzers.
The Wynes‘ & Bubbers’ ended up getting a bit wet on the way,
but that was the only rain of the evening. Just enough to “grub up” the cars. We stayed awhile, then ended up
eating at Mickeys Diner. With the exception of the good company, Mickey’s was the highlight of the evening….. Mickey’s does have good food, and ya gotta love the ambiance!! :- )

ELLSWORTH SHOW 7/22
I have no idea how many went to this one as I got no pictures,
but there’s usually a pretty good group for this one. I did hear that the Cruzers did pretty well in the hardware area,
with Dick & Mary Ann Clemmer taking a 1st, Virgil & Carol Oltmans taking a 2nd and Tom & Pattie Page taking a
3rd. Congrats to all.

CLUB MINI SHOW AT DCTC - 7/20
The club did a mini show for the Dakota County Technical College and
we had 14 Member Cars there, plus at least 5 that came in grocery getters. There were also 2 non-member cars from the school,
as they had inside info about it :- ). It was a nice time, and they gave us a coupon for $5 off any food vendor, and there
were 4 of them, with “Raisin’ Cain Chicken Strips out of Apple Valley” being the most favored food. There
were a lot of crafters which kept the gals, and some guys busy. We can try for more cars next year as they invited us back.
They gave a trophy chosen by the DCTC Staff, and it went to Dick & Lois Peterson’s 1932 Ford… Cool trophy…
Congrats Folks.

FRIDAY NIGHT CRUISE—GRANDPA’S GARAGE
7/20
Article by: Dave
Kempkes
Another
fabulous night, 80 degree’s, a cool breeze and 20 club cars meeting at Dakota Electric for a nice cruise through the
countryside before arriving at Grandpa’s Garage for a dinner with friends. A fine combination of cars ranging from stock
to not so stock! Gary sure can pick the nights, past a muggy spell and days before a repeat performance by the weather.

CAR CRAFT NATIONALS - 7/20-22
It was my first time there, and it’s a great
show, especially if you are into “muscle”!!!! I’ve never seen
that many tubbed & blown vehicles in one spot ever!! WOW!! It’s like a laid back BTTF’s for muscle cars, although
there are a lot of other type of cars there from stock to street rods. They get about 4,000 cars and maybe 1/3 of the spectators
of the 50’s, so it’s not so crowded which makes for easy crusin’, on a well marked route, if that’s
what you like to do. They allow saving spots, so we should look at doing that with the Club members that go in 2008. Though
it’s smaller, there’s still plenty to see and do. Food vendors, parts suppliers, great burnout contest and of
course the Miss Car Craft contest. It was a good time.

CLUB HOSTED THE HASTINGS CRUISE-IN
- 7/14
This was pretty cool because we got really great
reserved parking, along with the fact that there were tons of Cruzers there. The large number of members made it a fairly
easy event to work. A few of us had to handle the “center parking” and then there were a couple gates that had
to be manned until 5:00. After that we only had to have members at the east end because once they park the middle, the “cruising”
goes opposite the normal traffic flow, so we had to be sure no cars went the wrong way when coming in. This might be something
the Club wants to do more often; we’ll have to check on it.
|
|
|
LAKEVILLE CROSSROADS - 7/13
The Cruzers again made a big splash here. This is
a nice way to spend a Friday night, and a lot of us take advantage of it. Chris & Vicki Robinson’s 1940 Ford was
selected to be on the newspaper ad and the flyers advertising the August event. Congrats to them!!!
|
|
|
CLUB BBQ MEETING - 7/11
What a turnout!!!! I think I heard that the count
was 68 Cruzers!!!! That’s a bunch. The event was a combo Monthly Meeting and Club BBQ, so that explains some of the
large turnout….. we Cruzers are drawn by food, especially if it’s FREE!!!! The Club provided the meat. Thanks
to Jerry & Mary Perry for volunteering their home & backyard for this, and for all the work they put in. They did
the cooking of all the meat, and handled getting everything setup for us. They have a really great layout on their lot with
a deck, gazebo, out building, green house, lots of beautiful flowers & shrubs etc …. Really cool!! Again, Thanks
to them for making it a pleasant evening.

|
PAN-O-PROG CAR SHOW - 7/7
A few Cruzers, 7, I believe, brought their cars
to this one. It was the Pan-O-Prog Car Show that is held the day after the Cruise. I think they need to do more advertising
then they’ve been doing, as this is the 3rd year, and again they only had about 70 cars for the show, plus
the 50 Vettes that were there because the Vette Club puts it on. The Cruzer’s did the Club proud as of the Top 16 Awards
(4 were reserved for the Vettes) we took home 4. In alpha order Bubbers’, Reed’s, Stade’s & Swagger’s.

. PAN-O-PROG
FRIDAY NIGHT CRUISE 7/6
WOW!!! What a great night!!! This year the Cruise Committee duties were
handled by Tom & Marcia McIntosh along with help from Jim Reed. They changed the parking setup as well as the releasing
of the vehicles, and everyone believed it went super smooth. Congrats to them!!! With the weather cooperating, we ended up
with 510 registered cars in spite of the fact that we backed the year allowed back down to 1979 and older. With the Grossman
Vettes, and members “control cars” there were about 530 total in the cruise. Thanks to Bill Myers and Natasha
& Miranda Neher (daughters of Jim & Tami’s) for carrying the “Spectacular” banner leading the Cruise
through town. We got a lot of compliments as we were wandering the streets downtown after the cars were parked, as well as
the next day at the car Show. Our thanks also goes out to Grossman Chevrolet / Cadillac & the Downtown Lakeville Business
Assn. for their continued sponsorship support. Again, congrats to Tom, Marcia & Jim, and a HUGE THANKS to all the volunteers!!!!
Without you it doesn’t happen!!!

AV FREEDOM DAYS 6/29
There were somewhere around 250 cars that showed up at Bogart’s
to officially kick off Apple Valley’s Freedom Days festivities. Lots of Cruzers, I had the count at 13 cars, but may
have missed a couple. This makes sense, as it’s our Club’s backyard. It was a good time with great weather, good
friends & cool cars. I, and others thought it was a much better location than the previous location at Rascals as there
is a lot of grease etc there, and here all the cars were parked in one lot.

SUNDAY NIGHT CRUISE TO CHAMPPS 6/24
Article by: Dave Kempkes
No pictures at this one! Gave everyone a night off of having their pictures
taken. We met at Champp’s in Burnsville after Back to the 50’s. 41 cruzers showed up for dinner, drinks, and great
conversation. It was a splendid night for having the patio to ourselves
where we were not afraid to let our hair down and have a great time after a hectic weekend. Congrat’s to Rick Clemmens
who celebrated his birthday with a little treat compliments of the Champp’s staff. Another excellent night of cars,
food, friends and good times. A excellent turn out for a dinner outing, and hope to see other
members at future outings.

BTTF’s WEEKEND 6/22 - 24
As always it was a great weekend. We actually avoided rain all three days, which hasn’t
happened for awhile. I’m sure that had something to do with the new record of 11,532 cars registered….WOW!!! Lots
of Cruzers naturally, which makes for a lot of fun. On a somber note, Noel Johnson was in an accident with his & Linda’s
46 Chevy. Not his fault, he was standing still and got hit head-on and it caused some major damage…. fender, hood,
grille and more, that rendered the car un-drivable, but in spite of that Noel was still there on Saturday morning, a
true car person. A congrats to Jan Pedersen for being on the Pioneer Press’s website video coverage. Between her, Ron
Swagger & Carl Forsberg we now have celebrities in the club.

MSRA BACK TO THE FIFTIES KICK-OFF - 6/21
This was really cool…. They accepted 25 cars for this and they all got to park on Nicollet
Mall from 11:00 – 1:00, to “kick off” the BTTF’s. Carl Forsberg, Ron Swagger & I had our cars
there and it was good fun. All the TV stations showed up as well as the major newspapers and KOOL108. They had live entertainment
in the park, and a bunch of food vendors were set up to feed the crowds. Ron ended up with a huge picture in the Star Trib
Community Section (I can be seen through his windshield), and Carl F. and Ron showed up again on the “Garage Blog”
on the WCCO website. It was a great way to start the weekend.

FARIBAULT HERITAGE DAYS SHOW - 6/17
Article & picture by: Bill & Pat Krenske
Sunday
we went to the Faribault Heritage Days Car Show (of course - our home town & only a 5 mile drive!). In our class a '31
Model A roadster convert took 1st and we took 2nd, and guess what got People's Choice???????? YOU WILL NEVER BELIEVE IT!!! Three guesses!!! You can see it in the
picture. The terrible dirty, dirty '27 T Bucket rat rod with dried on muddy tires and no interior. UNBELIEVABLE!!!
It is parked to the left of us.
Take care, Bill & Pat

FARMINGTON’S RAMBLIN’ RIVER DAYS PARADE - 6/24 There
were 8 Cars that represented the Cruzers in the Ramblin’ River Days Parade, and it was a good variety from cars to a
truck, rods, customs and stocks. The Summer Spectacular banner was again carried out front, and that detail was handled by
Ellen Forsberg, Cindy Bubbers and Miranda & Natasha Neher (daughters of Jim & Tammy). It was a decent size crowd and
we all had fun showing off the cars because the crowd loves em. Hopefully next year we can get a few more.

EDDIE COCHRAN DAY’S
SHOW - 6/17
This was in Albert Lea, and the only Cruzers were Carl F. & myself. It was a decent size show, not as big as I thought it would be, but decent. We met
a few other people we knew and with the day being sunny and warm it was a nice way to spend the day. We again did fairly well
as Carl took a 2nd in the Street Rod Class, and I took a 1st in the Pro Street Class. The plaques were
HUGE, mine was 12” x 15”…. Yowser.

STONE
ARCH SHOW - 6/16 & 17
Article by: Dave Kempkes I cannot report
on Saturday's show, because we were not there, but Sunday brought out many Cruzer members. Attending were Tim Hanna and his
daughter, Dick Jacobs and his spouse, Terry Stade, Jerry Salhus & spouse, Dave Kempkes and his friend. After a windy &
humid 92 degree day, Kempkes took 2nd, Salhus took 2nd & Dick Jacobs 1st in their class’s. Congrats to the Cruzers
picking up awards at yet another show

STRAWBERRY
FESTIVAL – COTTAGE GROVE 6/16
Article by: Dave Kempkes I missed almost all of this show, after throwing
a push rod through a rocker arm Saturday at 8AM. After a tow & a run to the junk yard, I hit the show at about 1pm. Terry
Stade & Chris & Vicki Robinson were already there, enjoying a nice sticky day. I was just happy to have a car that
suffered no engine damage, seeing it only has 1,200 miles on the rebuild. No
one won a trophy, but a nice time was had by all. Then to Hastings!

CALEDONIA CAR SHOW - 6/16
This was a REALLY little show…. they didn’t do much advertising and it was drizzly till about 10:00. The
Forsberg’s and Bubbers’ took off in the drizzle and drove in it pretty much for the whole 2+ hour trip. BUT! once
we got there it stopped and turned into a sunny day. The folks were all “small town nice” in spite of the poor
attendance and that, combined with a great little café to eat at made for a nice day. We had a good showing with Carl &
Ellen taking a 2nd and Cindy & I got a 1st AND People’s Choice…. Thanks goes to all
my relatives :- )

FRIDAY
NIGHTS AT PRIOR LAKE – 6/15
Article & pictures by: Dave Kempkes
Friday
nights in Prior Lake finds numerous Cruzers attending. This particular night, found Lyons, Biers, Kempkes, Northrup’s,
Peterson’s, Lindmeyer’s and others attending, It was a little quiet with Cross Roads holding a show also, and
of course Graduation things going on, but still a rather decent turn out. About 60 or so cars turned out for a nice night
of hanging out. Come out and join us, maybe even have dinner with us here!!

RUM RIVER FESTIVAL SHOW – 6/10
This was held at the Princeton Airport. It was a Top 30 Car Show and a “Fly In”
Breakfast . Lots of planes were coming and going all morning. It was a great breakfast and tho the lines were long, they
moved quick. Two Cruzers (no brides) made it to this one Carl Forsberg (39 Ford) & Mark Bubbers (34 Ford). They did
the Club proud as both received a Top 30 award.
|
|
|
AMBER ALERT BENEFIT SHOW – 6/9
Only 2 Cruzers made this one, Dick Jacobs
& Mark Bubbers sans their brides. It was held at the Point Restaurant and bar in Hastings. It was a little car show and
a HUGE motorcycle cruise so people watching was fun. They had a silent auction, discounted breakfast and raffles. It
was put on by the Los Padrinos Car Club which is a Lowrider Club. Really some cool cars. Mark & Cindy Bubbers’ 34
Ford took a Top 21 award.
|
|
|
MIKE POPELKA MEMORIAL SHOW – 6/9
This was a rough show as they only gave away 10 trophies. 3 each for Best Car, Best Bike, Best Tractor &
one for best Paint. HUGE trophies though as 1st was 48”, 2nd
was 42” and 3rd was 38”. The Best Paint was a full 6' tall!!! Carl Forsberg was the only Cruzer there
and unfortunately he didn’t land one of the awards. He did say that the “burn out” contest was cool. They
had to go through all the gears and then go until the tires blew!!!

KRUGER
AID FEST. 6/9 Waseca MN
Article and pictures by: Dave Kempkes WOW, what a day!
We started off by meeting at Dick’s Sanitation in the early morning, had
a great ride down the interstate and stopped for breakfast at Perkins. We made
an entrance (a line of 19 cars) to the Kruger Fest already in swing, with approximately 100 or so cars already present, along
with motorcycles and vintage snowmobiles. With friends, nice cars, the music in the background and lawn chairs in a circle,
the Cruzers enjoyed a day of silent auctions, flea markets, ice cream, music and great cars coming from all over the area.
After the day at the show, we cruised 20 miles and had dinner at the Bears Den in Elysian. Excellent food all around, neat
rustic type of a restaurant.. Then we went to the ice cream store, and then Gary Hall took us on a cruise around the lakes at sundown driving around the camp site areas, showing off our rides to gawkers,
before calling it a night in Faribault. THANKS AGAIN to all who attended, I hoped we could show support, and our excellent
cars. We even got announced after entering the show, when some of us were registering, as the Southern Cruzers from the Twin
Cities area. We had a great time! The long distance award went to a car from Big Lake Minnesota, 138 miles 1 way! Come
join us next time!

GOODHUE VOLKFEST
- 6/9
Article by: Bill & Pat Krenske
On Saturday we went to the Goodhue Volksfest Open Class Car & Truck Show. There were only 8 big trophies
given out. Four of them were for King's Choice, Queen's Choice, etc., and then 4 for top vote getters. You could
only vote for 1 car, so don't know how that works. But we got one of the 4 big trophies for the top vote getters, so we felt
very good and surprised about that. There were probably 60 or so cars & trucks there.

JUNE CROSSROADS SHOW – 6/8
Wow!!! There were 18 Cruzer Cars at this one. That’s a lot from one club, but
with the nice weather and close proximity I suppose it was to be expected. It’s growing and I think there was about
110 cars there. This is a fun time for something to do on a Friday Night.

GRAND MARAIS SHOW 6/2
Article by: Toby Keeler
Ricci and I drove up to Grand Marais this past weekend for their annual car show. The weather was less than
cooperative, foggy, temp in the high 40's. The fog finally blew off as the wind picked up and it really got cold. Lot's of
cars from Thunder Bay, Canada. Didn't see any other Southern Cruzers (LOL), but we were pleasantly surprised to win the Mayors
Choice Award. ( maybe because they felt sorry for us in the cold).

HASTINGS CRUISE
IN 6/2
Article by: Jan Pedersen
In spite of threatening weather, a bunch of Southern Cruzers, Carol & Virgil O, Dick & Mary Ann C, Dick &
Lois P, Jim & Linda R, Keith B, Rich & Renee Storlie, Jan P, Tom & Marcia M. and their Daughter Kristi met at
the Dakota County Garage and braved the trek to Hastings for the First Hastings Saturday Night Cruise In for the season.
Dustin Clemens & a couple friends showed up as well. Even with rain, the event was well attended. The volunteers predict
the Cruise In's will be bigger and better than last year! Renae & Denny B, the McMillans, and the Ballman's came
with their regular cars. Rick and Kim Clemens won the "Car of the Night" award chosen by Brie's Unique Boutique!

MOPARS IN THE PARK 6/2 & 3
Article & pictures by: Dave
Kempkes Well, I
did not see many from the club there Sunday, even though we were dodging rain
showers all day. It was an ok turn out considering Sundays are the time most out-of-towners return home. I missed the Saturday
part of the show because of work. Dick & Judy Jacobs' 1932 Plymouth took a first place at the Mopar Show. Next year
it will be held at the Dakota County Fairgrounds. Congrats to the Jacobs’! The
had a decent swap also, scored a few goodies!
