When I graduated from
Chiropractic school I was elated. The celebrations and congratulations were welcomed for the four plus years of study, clinical
observations and patient treatments. One thing was missing. The answer to questions. Questions that continue as long as I
(or anyone for that matter) continue to learn. Many questions may never be fully answered because they spawn new questions
ad infinitum. That's the fun of learning isn't it? It's also part of the mystery of how we learn. Is it the question
or the pursuit of the answer that we learn from most? Does it matter? Pretty heady stuff isn't it? Important though! Take this question for instance.
What
is my role as a doctor? Brother? Encourager? Babysitter? Coach? Father? Protector? The answer is not
easy. How about the answer to these questions. Doc, what's wrong with me? What do I have? Can you fix me? How do I answer that knowing a patient is a person who's body is constantly changing their
presentation each time they come in? How do I answer a poem, a favorite song, a movie or any artistic expression?
When a patient thanks me for being made well. How do I answer anticipation, fulfillment, or gratitude. What's
the answer to the experience we call being healthy?
You and I are changed forever by our meeting. You
come to me because you want change, you want to be different. You want a different experience. Therefore, if
a desire for change is the goal I can choose to become your "agent of change". I need to find you
underneath all the symptoms and the disease some expert somewhere said you have. You are in there somewhere
looking to "own" your disease. What is your nature? Who are you at your core?
You are not some "thing" that needs to be fixed. You are alot like me. You want to experience the greatest
vision of the grandest version of who you really are. So do I. Deep down inside, so do I. It is in this quest
that we together, find the answers.
